What are Glycolic Acid Peels?

Glycolic Acid is the term used for several naturally occurring acids found in fruits and other foods called alpha hydroxy acids (AHA). AHAs include lactic acid, derived from sour milk; citric acid, derived from citric fruit such as oranges; and glycolic acid, derived from sugar cane. The glycolic acid acts as a chemical exfoliant removing off dead skin cells allowing younger healthier cells come to the surface. Glycolic acid peels are non-invasive and painless. They are beneficial for acne, aging, hyperpigmentation, and skin tone and texture.

What are the benefits of glycolic acid peels?

●   Reduce the occurrence of blackheads and blemishes, reduce oil production, and treat acne

     scars

●   Reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and sun damage

●   Improve hyperpigmentation (abnormal skin colour) and uneven skin tone and texture

●   Help to improve shaving irritation

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments needed depend on the individual needs. An average of 6-8 treatments is recommended at a frequency ranging from every week to six weeks.

How is the procedure performed?

The skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove any make-up, moisturizers and surface bacteria. The Glycolic Acid is then evenly applied to the skin. The length of time the Glycolic Acid is in contact with the skin is carefully monitored. The skin is then neutralized and washed off and a moisturizer and SPF are applied.

After the treatment your skin will be pink to red for approximately an hour. During the next 3-4 days you may experience mild flaking as the chemical exfoliation sloughs the dead skins cells leaving a youthful, healthy luster.

What is Microdermabrasion?

The epidermis is the topmost layer of the skin. The outer surface of the epidermis (stratum corneum) is a coating of dead skin cells that form when fresh cells made in the skin's deeper layers push their way to the surface, flatten and die.

The topmost layer of skin (stratum corneum) is continually sloughed as new cells take its place. However, problems can arise with this natural sloughing process causing various skin problems. Exfoliation can assist the natural sloughing process to bring young healthy skin cells to the surface. Microdermabrasion treatment utilizes a diamond tip wand to exfoliate the topmost layer of skin by gently abrading the skin while at the same time vacuuming the dead skin cells away. Microdermabrasion is beneficial for acne, aging, dyschromia, and skin tone and texture.
